How long have you been working in the UK for?
Just a couple of weeks, so not long.
What top tip would you give to other international recruits?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Make use of the support that’s provided to you to be successful. Nobody wants you to fail and they all believe in you so trust yourself that you can do it. Trust in your training and trust in your skills because you are a well-equipped nurse.
How easy/difficult has it been integrating into a new community?
I think every new community is a little bit challenging but the great thing about nursing is that it is constant. However unfamiliar something may seem, it will eventually become familiar once you get to know it better. The staff where I work are absolutely wonderful so it’s been really easy integrating into their family.
Has the language been a barrier to you at all?
Not really. I’ve been told that accents can be a little challenging to understand but I have not had any problems so far.
What would you say to other nurses thinking about a potential move to the UK?
Now is the perfect time to jumpstart your career in the UK. You can do it and you won’t regret it.
Out of ten how happy would you say you are right now?
I would give it an eight for now because I’ve got the OSCE to tackle first but other than that everything is perfect.
