How long have you been working in the UK for now?

I’ve been here for nine months now. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, But you know what they say about time and having fun, yeah that’s how I feel about it.

What has been the most surprising aspect of your move to the UK?

The slightly odd expressions that are used by some people including colleagues such as “as useless as a chocolate teapot” and “twist my arm”. I never came across these expressions before and I find myself pleasantly amused with them and I look forward to using them myself.

What top tip would you give to other international recruits?

Find good friends who will support you because it makes all the difference. Wake up grateful. Remember, your challenges here are other people’s dreams. Be thankful you get to live and experience what you have.

How easy/difficult has it been integrating in to a new community?

It was not that hard for me, honestly. At first I struggled with the accent, but I was fine after a few weeks. I am blessed that people around me are friendly and always willing to lend the hand. Other Filipinos who have been here a long time have helped me adjust as well.

Is there anything you’d like to say thank you to your employer for?

I’m absolutely grateful that they are so generous. I am so proud to have an employer who shouldered all of my expenses, including three months worth of accommodation. I’m extremely thankful that they have a good working environment where employees are pleasant and helpful.

Out of ten how happy would you say you are right now?

I would say I’m an eight. Not really a ten since I’m not with my family, but if you ask me again in a few months I’m sure that would improve. So yeah, I’m in a good place. Actually, scratch that … I’m in a great place.
