Want to run your nurse OSCE training in-house? Key information about Train the Trainer courses

All international nurses who enter the UK on a Tier 2 visa must successfully pass Part 2 of the NMC registration process – the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in order to receive their PIN and validate their visa.

It is very important that nurses are given the best chance of passing the OSCE which is a challenging practical assessment made up of six separate stations using simulated patients in a clinical setting.

It is our recommendation that nurses receive at least three to five full days of focused OSCE supported practice prior to sitting this test to adequately prepare them for the test environment.

In order to provide your nurses with the correct level of support, it is highly recommended that you send a clinical team member on an OSCE Train the Trainer course that will equip them with the skills, knowledge and understanding that will best support aspiring nurses in achieving OSCE competence.

OSCE Train the Trainer courses are currently run by three different organisations:

  • Oxford Brookes University (Swindon and Oxford campuses)
  • Northampton University
  • Ulster University

Some centres also run Open Days which are free to attend and provide a good opportunity to view the facilities, find out more about the OSCE process and candidate journey, and to network with those involved in OSCEs from other health boards and Universities
